Tree Surveys & Reports

Tree Perspectives provide tree surveys and arboricultural consultancy services across Mid Wales, Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Our surveys assess general health,
structural integrity, and help homeowners, landowners and businesses meet their legal duty
of care. We pride ourselves on our friendly, open and understandable approach to tree surveying, with a focus on safety and arboricultural welfare.

We offer a comprehensive range of services to homeowners, local authorities, businesses
and developers and can provide the following:

General Tree Health and Safety Condition Surveys:

General tree health and safety condition surveys are carried out to evaluate
the condition, structural integrity, and potential risks associated with trees. These surveys
are typically performed by qualified arborists or tree surveyors to ensure trees are safe and
well-maintained, particularly in areas where they could pose a risk to people, property, or
infrastructure.

Mortgage Tree Reports (Pre-Purchase Tree Survey):

Trees greatly enhance our homes and living environments, offering numerous benefits such
as shade, noise reduction, visual screening, air purification, and soil stabilisation. However,
trees located near buildings can also pose challenges, making it essential to understand
their potential impacts when purchasing a home or property.

This report integrates elements of Safety & Condition Surveys and Arboricultural Impact
Assessments in both the short and medium term, providing you, and potential mortgage lenders, with peace of mind before making your property purchase.

Tree Surveys for Planning and Development Applications (BS5837:2012,
Arboricultural Impact Assessment, Arboricultural Method Statement):

Tree surveys for planning and development applications assess the impact of construction on
trees and vice versa, following BS5837:2012. These surveys are required for planning applications where trees are present, ensuring compliance with local authority policies and tree protection laws.

The key components of these surveys are:
1. Arboricultural Impact Assessment (AIA) – Evaluating how proposed development may
affect existing trees, including root damage, shading, and structural risks.
2. Arboricultural Method Statement (AMS) – Outlining measures to protect retained trees
during construction, such as fencing, root protection zones, and working methods.
3. Tree Constraints Plan (TCP) – Mapping trees on-site, categorising them based on their
condition and value (e.g., retention, removal, or mitigation planting).

General Interest Survey:

Some customers simply want to learn more about the trees in their care. A General Interest Survey will assess tree structure and health but will consider additional factors such as woodland management for product (i.e. firewood), conservation, or cultural and historical significance. This is a highly customisable report, depending on your interests and needs.

All of our surveys follow the Visual Tree Assessment (VTA) method of tree diagnosis that is legally recognised worldwide.

Why do I need a tree survey?

There are several reasons why a tree survey might be recommended or required. These include:

Identifying potential hazards

Surveys will detect structural weaknesses, diseases, or defects that could lead to tree failure.

Assessing tree health

Evaluating overall vitality, including signs of decay, pest infestations, or poor growth.

Risk Management

Helping property owners and managers meet their duty of care by identifying and mitigating risks.

Legal Compliance

Ensuring adherence to UK regulations, such as the Occupiers Liability Act 1957 & 1984 and Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.

Preservation and Maintenance

Providing recommendations for ongoing tree care, pruning, or necessary removals.

General Interest and Education

Tree surveys can help us to better understand and care for our vital tree networks, as well as the ecosystems that thrive in and around them.
